Creating Your Own Table: A Seat at the Chief

December 01, 20243 min read

When women come together with purpose and intention, magic happens. As part of my mission to encourage female entrepreneurs to create their own table, I often seek opportunities to connect with like-minded, trailblazing women. This year, I’ve been focused on being more present and in person, but with my busy travel schedule, I have to be deliberate about how I network.

So, when my extraordinary friend and colleague, Ari Krzyzek, extended an invitation to an event at Chief in Chicago, I couldn’t resist. This wasn’t just any event—it was a gathering that resonated with authenticity, ambition, and the shared vision of uplifting women leaders.

A Collective Powerhouse

The event was a collaboration between the Female Founder Collective (FFC) and Chief, hosted at Chief’s Chicago Clubhouse. Over 50 dynamic women entrepreneurs gathered in this space to share their journeys, celebrate successes, and exchange ideas. These weren’t just business leaders—they were trailblazers, each navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship while staying true to their vision.

Powerful Panel Discussion

Panelist for the Chief

The evening featured an insightful panel moderated by none other than Ari Krzyzek and Megan Nufer, and included two powerhouse founders:

- Mara Smith, Founder of Inspiro Tequila

- Monica Royer, Founder & CEO of Monica & Andy

These women didn’t just share their stories—they brought raw honesty and practical wisdom to the table. The themes they explored resonated deeply with everyone in the room:

1. Work-Life Integration
  • Let’s face it—balancing family, business, and personal goals is a juggling act. The panelists offered candid perspectives on giving yourself grace when things don’t go as planned.

  • Strategies ranged from time-blocking to learning the art of delegation, and most importantly, embracing imperfection.

2. Funding & Growth
  • Tackling the intimidating world of fundraising, the panel provided actionable insights on seeking investments and navigating financial challenges.

  • Their message? Own your value, and don’t shy away from asking for what you need.

3. Brand Building & Partnerships
  • In a crowded marketplace, standing out requires clarity of vision and a commitment to building meaningful relationships.

  • The founders shared examples of partnerships that propelled their brands to new heights, emphasizing the importance of aligning with others who share your values.

4. Chicago’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
  • As a proud Midwesterner, I loved hearing the panel highlight Chicago’s vibrant entrepreneurial community.

  • Moving beyond coastal dominance, Chicago is proving itself to be a hub of innovation and collaboration for female founders.

Event Impact

What set this event apart wasn’t just the panelists’ wisdom—it was the energy in the room. The environment fostered genuine connection and the spirit of collaboration. Attendees left feeling inspired and equipped with actionable takeaways:

  • Strategies to scale their businesses

  • Ideas to nurture partnerships

  • Confidence to pursue growth

Why Events Like These Matter

In a world where women often find themselves excluded from traditional power structures, spaces like this are revolutionary. They remind us that we don’t need to wait for an invitation—we can create our own table, and when we do, we bring others along with us.

Events like this one are a testament to the power of community. They allow us to dream bigger, connect deeper, and rise higher. And as we do, we not only transform our own journeys but also pave the way for others to follow.

So, here’s my challenge to you: How will you create your table? Will you lean into your authenticity and surround yourself with women who amplify your greatness? The world is waiting for your unique brilliance—don’t keep it waiting.

Until next time, remember: You are capable, magnificent, and more than enough. Keep building, keep dreaming, and keep shining.
