For many women, a career path is rarely linear. It often pauses, shifts, and restarts due to personal responsibilities and life transitions. For Kiruthikaa Srinivasan, a supply chain technology professional based in California, returning to work was not just about resuming a job. It was about rebuilding confidence, redefining identity, and creating a new path forward.

Kiruthikaa began her career in India working in enterprise technology roles across application support and systems administration. Coming from a small town in Tamil Nadu, she built her career step by step and gradually took on leadership responsibilities, including helping build teams, conducting interviews, and establishing operational processes.

While her career progressed in technology, she always had a strong passion for teaching. From her school days through college, she was drawn to mentoring others. She volunteered to teach children during her college years, which later became an important part of her identity.

After moving to the United States, Kiruthikaa took a six-year career break to focus on raising her family. During this time, although her professional role paused, her learning did not stop. She continued taking certifications and exploring new skills to stay connected with technology.

Returning to the workforce in 2021 was one of the most challenging phases of her journey. She applied to over a thousand roles and faced repeated rejections. Each application required effort and hope, but often ended in disappointment. Rebuilding a career after a long break required not only technical preparation, but also emotional resilience.

When she finally secured a role as a support analyst, the challenges did not end. Re-entering a fast-paced environment after years away meant learning and adapting quickly. There were moments of self-doubt and exhaustion, especially while working in a demanding setup with limited resources.

At the same time, she was managing motherhood in its most demanding phase. After the birth of her second child, she returned to work within two months. Many of her workdays involved balancing professional responsibilities while caring for a newborn, often attending meetings with her child in her arms. With minimal external support, every day required careful balancing of priorities.

Despite these challenges, she chose to keep moving forward. She spent additional hours each day learning new tools, strengthening her technical skills, and rebuilding her confidence. Many nights extended late as she balanced work, family, and continuous learning.

A turning point came when she was exposed to advanced enterprise systems and AI-driven tools capable of retrieving and analyzing complex data in real time. This experience sparked a deeper curiosity about how such systems were built and how they could be applied to solve real world problems.

Recognizing that the future of supply chains increasingly relies on data and artificial intelligence, she pursued a second master’s degree in Data Analytics at Northwest Missouri State University. Entering this field without a strong coding background made the journey even more challenging. Most concepts, including machine learning and programming, were new to her, but she continued to build her expertise through consistent effort.

Her motivation strengthened when she realized that many of her peers who started their careers alongside her had moved into senior roles. Instead of feeling discouraged, she used this as motivation to grow faster and bridge the gap. She focused on learning, skill development, and building her professional profile.

Within a few years, she progressed from an analyst role to a project management position, aligning herself with the level of her peers.

Today, her work focuses on applying artificial intelligence to improve supply chain systems, with an emphasis on sustainability and risk management. Her goal is to contribute to building systems that are more resilient, efficient, and responsible, especially in a world where global disruptions affect everyday life.

Beyond her professional growth, one of the most meaningful aspects of her journey has been supporting other women. Having experienced the challenges of restarting a career, she actively mentors women returning to the workforce, offering guidance on skill development, career positioning, and navigating transitions into data and technology roles.

She understands the emotional challenges involved, including self doubt, guilt, and the fear of being left behind. Through her efforts, she aims to make the path easier for others.

Her journey reflects an important reality. Career paths are not always continuous, and success does not have a single timeline. With determination and consistent effort, it is possible to restart and grow again.

Lessons from Her Journey

Kiruthikaa’s experience offers practical lessons for women who are looking to restart or reinvent their careers:

  • Start before you feel ready. Confidence develops through action, not waiting.

  • Continue learning, even during career breaks. Small efforts can make a big difference over time.

  • Focus on building skills instead of only applying for jobs.

  • Do not compare your journey with others. Every path is different.

  • Seek support and also support others. Community plays an important role in growth.

Her message to women is simple. Do not give up on your career. Independence builds confidence and creates opportunities. Life may present challenges, but with determination, there is always a way forward.
