Teeing Up: Celebrating Women's Golf Month with Style and Passion
While I may not be a golfer, I'm a huge fan of minigolf, and someday, I'd love to take golf lessons. I have a great appreciation for the game. Coming from corporate America, I noticed how men tend to do business in the boardroom or on the golf course. So, I became intrigued with the idea of women learning golf. To my surprise, a few years ago, I discovered that June is Women's Golf Month—an exciting revelation that sparked my curiosity and admiration for the sport.
June is not just any month—it's a celebration of women who swing, putt, and drive their way through the greens with style and grace. Launched in 2005 by the PGA of America, supported by the LPGA and the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), Women's Golf Month has evolved into a vibrant ode to women in golf.
The festivities kicked off in grand style with Women’s Golf Day founder Elisa Gaudet, accompanied by Callaway Golf and Topgolf, ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. This symbolic gesture marked the beginning of a month-long extravaganza filled with events and opportunities for women golfers worldwide.
From bustling golf facilities hosting a myriad of events to tens of thousands of women teeing off or honing their skills, Women’s Golf Day set the stage for a remarkable celebration.
In my research, I've learned that the participation of women in golf has soared. What started at 27% of all golf participants in 2014 has grown by an impressive 43%, now nearly 11.5 million strong. However, much of this growth has been off-course, highlighting an opportunity to further engage women on the greens.
The future of golf shines brightly, especially among young players aged 6 to 17, where girls now make up over a third of participants. Among the millions of Americans eager to embrace golf, a significant 37% are women—showcasing a vibrant interest and potential for further growth.
Women’s Golf Month and Women’s Golf Day aren't just about hitting balls—they're about creating inclusive spaces and unforgettable experiences for every woman stepping onto the course. By enhancing the beginner experience and fostering a welcoming environment, we can unlock the full potential of six million prospective women golfers.
As we dive into Women’s Golf Month, let's tee off with enthusiasm, camaraderie, and a shared passion for the game. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner with dreams of conquering the fairways, this month is a celebration of every woman who adds her unique flair to the world of golf. So grab your clubs, join the swing sisters, and let's make this June a hole-in-one celebration of women's golf!
